Supernova UV Adhesive FAQsUpdated 6 hours ago
WHAT MAKES SUPERNOVA DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL LASH ADHESIVE?
Traditional cyanoacrylate lash adhesives cure in response to environmental moisture, meaning changes in temperature and humidity can affect working behavior. SUPERNOVA uses UV activation to give the artist more control over when curing occurs.
IF SOMEONE IS ALLERGIC TO LASH ADHESIVE, CAN THEY USE UV ADHESIVE?
Not if they have a known cyanoacrylate allergy. SUPERNOVA is UV-curable, but it still contains cyanoacrylate, so UV adhesive should not be considered an alternative for clients with a cyanoacrylate allergy.
Allergy and fume sensitivity are different. If a client is sensitive specifically to adhesive fumes, UV application may be a better experience because the adhesive is cured on demand, reducing the amount of time uncured adhesive is releasing fumes.
UV does not make cyanoacrylate adhesive hypoallergenic.
DOES IT WORK WITH PURPLE AND WHITE UV LIGHTS?
Yes. SUPERNOVA was formulated for compatibility with both purple and white professional UV lash lights.
WHAT LASHES DOES IT WORK WITH?
Designed to work with all lashes and all techniques. Use it with Classic lashes, Premades, Y Lashes, handmade Volume, Mega Volume, and our signature the Flower Bouquet Technique®.
DOES UV MEAN I’LL AUTOMATICALLY GET BETTER RETENTION?
No adhesive replaces proper technique. UV gives you greater control over the curing process, but attachment, adhesive amount, isolation, natural lash prep, placement, and aftercare still affect retention.
WHY IS SUPERNOVA LESS SHINY?
One of our biggest complaints during UV testing was the highly reflective finish left by some UV adhesives. We formulated SUPERNOVA to cure less shiny than the other UV adhesives we tested, creating a cleaner-looking, more natural finish.
WHY DIDN’T LASHBOX LA CREATE A UV LIGHT?
Our goal was to first create an adhesive that works beautifully with compatible UV systems Lash Artists may already own.
We don’t want to create another product simply because we can. If we create a UV light in the future, we want it to solve a problem and bring something better to the artist.
DO I NEED TO BUY A NEW UV LIGHT TO USE SUPERNOVA?
No. SUPERNOVA was formulated to work with compatible purple and white UV lash light systems within the recommended 390–410 nm wavelength range.
Your cure time will vary depending on the light:
PURPLE/VIOLET: 395–400 nm | Approx. 0.5–1 second
WHITE: 405–410 nm | Approx. 1–2 seconds
Always confirm your light’s wavelength and follow the light manufacturer’s instructions.
DOES UV MEAN I DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STICKIES ANYMORE?
UV can make sticky management much easier because you control when the adhesive cures.
But proper isolation is still required. The adhesive needs to be fully cured before moving on, and Lash Artists should continue checking for stickies throughout the service.
IS UV ADHESIVE SAFE?
Yes, just like traditional adhesives are safe! UV lash systems should always be used according to the adhesive and light manufacturer’s instructions.
Proper wavelength, exposure time, working distance, positioning, and eye protection are important. The client’s eyes should remain closed and properly protected, and the light should never be directed into an open eye.
Just like traditional lash application, proper education and technique are essential.
CAN SUPERNOVA TOUCH THE SKIN?
No. Just like traditional lash adhesive, SUPERNOVA should not touch the client’s skin.
The extension and adhesive should be properly placed and attached to the natural lash with an appropriate distance from the skin.
WILL UV ADHESIVE AUTOMATICALLY IMPROVE MY RETENTION?
No. UV gives you more control over when your adhesive cures, but it cannot replace proper technique.
Prep, isolation, placement, attachment, direction, and the correct amount of adhesive are still essential for great retention.
Think of UV as another tool to give you more control, not a shortcut around lash fundamentals.
CAN REGULAR ADHESIVE REMOVER BE USED WITH SUPERNOVA?
Yes. Our regular professional adhesive removers can be used to remove SUPERNOVA.
Follow the same professional removal process you would use with traditional lash adhesive and never pull or force extensions from the natural lashes.
IS SUPERNOVA BEGINNER-FRIENDLY?
We recommend mastering traditional lash application before switching to UV.
When you’re first learning lashes, you’re already mastering a lot at once: proper isolation, adhesive control, placement, direction, distance from the skin, and preventing the top and bottom lashes from sticking together.
Adding a UV light and curing process introduces another step that requires control and awareness.
We recommend becoming comfortable completing a Classic set safely and efficiently with traditional adhesive first. Once your fundamentals are strong and you feel confident with isolation and placement, you can begin learning how to incorporate UV into your services.
Master the fundamentals first. Then add the technology.
WHAT TAPE SHOULD I USE WHEN WORKING WITH UV?
We recommend using an opaque, thicker tape or eye pad designed to help shield the under/upper-eye area from stray light.
Our Foam Tape is a great option because it is thick and opaque. Black eye pads are another option, but you do not have to use black pads specifically when working with SUPERNOVA.
The most important thing is proper client protection and following the instructions provided with your UV light system.
CAN I USE REGULAR LASH TAPE WITH UV?
We do not recommend using thin or transparent regular lash tape as your only protective layer when working with UV.
Traditional lash tape may allow more light to pass through than thicker, opaque materials. Instead, use an appropriate protective eye pad or opaque barrier, such as our Foam Tape, and always follow your UV light manufacturer’s recommendations for eye and skin protection.
You can still use other tape during the service for purposes like securing or adjusting the eye pads, as long as proper UV protection remains in place.
